Cheap, Cheerful and 3G: ZTE Quartz Coming to T-Mobile This Friday

$192 USD? That's Pebble territory...!

But it is indeed the launch price of the ZTE Quartz, an Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch with standalone 3G connectivity available exclusively from T-Mobile this Friday, April 14th—and in T-Mobile stores a week after that.

As its price would suggest, there's no on-board heart rate sensor or NFC; here's what it does have:

1.4 inch 400 x 400 round AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass 3
1.1 GHz dual-core Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor
4 GB storage
500 mAh battery
GPS
Bluetooth 4.1
802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
Networks: GSM 850/1900, UMTS Bands II (1900), IV (1700/2100) V (850)
Band: interchangeable 22 mm with quick release
Built-in speaker
IP67 water resistance

3G support and the built-in speaker will enable the watch to make and receive phone calls on the T-Mobile network; what's not yet known is how much T-Mobile will charge for that additional service.

The T-Mobile wearable plan normally cost $5 as an additional line (they frequently run promos that make it free) and $15 if it's the sole line. The wearable line includes unlimited talk, text, and data. T-Mobile has sold watch models capable of phone calling, like the Samsung Gears. There are T-Mobile customers using LG Urbane and Sports watches also.

ZTE by eschewing the fitness sensors, is ignoring an important segment of watch users. It seems to be going after the watch-as-a-phone segment of the market. I hope that group is large enough for this watch to be a success.

No serious person relies on watch HR sensors so this will appeal to a lot of people. I go to the gym 3x a week and have never looked at the HR sensor of my gear S2.

Looks like a good first Anrdoid Wear 2.0 watch, especially for the price. I HATE the calibrated bezel, plain is needed to truly use all of the available watch faces...but it's still a decent first effort by ZTE. I wish them luck!

Yep, I am bumping this thread to inquire if anybody is using this watch? I see on fleabay that there pricing is about half of their new retail price and am tempted to try this out. So, anybody have any experience with this watch?
