    Breaking news from the CRTC:

    The CRTC today announced that certain telecommunications providers will be able to access the wireless networks of Canada’s dominant providers to offer Canadians more choice and affordable options.

    As a result, regional providers that invest in network infrastructure and spectrum will be able to offer competitive services to millions of Canadians as mobile virtual network operators in areas where competition is limited. These companies have already been contributing to greater competition and helping to lower prices.
    Bell, Rogers, SaskTel and Telus have been asked to file proposed terms and conditions for access within 90 days. This is going to be interesting...

      Just another half-a$$ measure, meant to solidify the tight control of the cartel over telecommunications in Kanuckistan.
      Nothing to rejoice about... look at the requirements: did FCC ask Mint to own spectrum and infrastructure??? That defies the definition of MVNO.

      A real disruption would be allowing just one of the Big3 to be foreign owned and controlled.

      Maybe Shaw would get a better offer from elsewhere...

      Meanwhile; MVNOs yes. (Sort of)
      Make Rogers sell wireless to someone (anyone not Big3), Quebecor has made noises that they'd be interested... But make rules obvious that foreign money would be welcome for that transaction.

      I'm not holding my breath...
      I foresee Microcell 2.0.

      I wonder what counts as having infrastructure. Deploying one 1.4 MHz cell is enough?

      The Commission mentioned Ice Wireless by name.

      They only have a network in Yellowknife and Inuvik IIRC... From what I can gather, only one site in each town.

      They were trying to MVNO down south, using their roaming agreements with ROBELLUS and the Big3 went to the commission and shut them down...

      So, I think you only need spectrum somewhere, and a site that is operational....

      I think you meant to write laughable
      Remember last time CRTC promised to lower bills the plans proposed by Big3?

      This really is a no win situation here

      If MVNOs fail people will ridicule the CRTC
      If MVNOs do well, smaller carriers (such as Wind) become pointless and die off
