How is Xplore Mobile?

Anyone here on Xplore Mobile? Once my contract is done I'm thinking of switching providers and going month-to-month. Hows the service?

I'd be cautious. They have less than 20 sites deployed in all of Manitoba, and currently are permitted to roam on BellMTS, but it won't be forever.

Bell will also provide Xplornet with key services including expedited access to Bell’s towers in Manitoba for five years, temporary access to a mobile wireless network in a specified territory in Manitoba for three years, support for wireless handset procurement for five years and certain negotiated mobile wireless roaming services for five years.

I never see anyone in any of their stores either. I have a former coworker who works at of them, if I see him working I'll ask them how they're doing, but it doesn't seem like anyone *wants* to join them. Their plans are alright but the 5GB BYOD plan should be at least 8GB at that price to compete with Koodo's non-advertised 8GB/$45 plan.

Well I have a friend who was recently on Xplore until he moved overseas. He was satisfied with the service every time I talked to him. They have a $45. I noticed on Xplore's website they removed Winnipeg as being in their native coverage area, now just focusing in Brandon, Neepawa and Dauphin. They announced an Unlimited (25GB + 2GB off network) data plan for $85/mo recently ($45 in the three communities if they have Xplorenet already) but everything seems very vague.. like if you go off network to somewheres like Portage or Winnipeg and go over the 2GB out-of-network threshold, do you get charged, or is it just throttled? The media release is very vague about everything.

Well, the rollover for unused data is quite good as there is a lot of data left over every weekend. As a gamer who spends a lot of time using up data, I find that feature really good.

It's been around for 3 years now and I think that they will end up selling to one of the big 3 or Videotron. They haven't turned on any new towers since launch and seeing that they only have one brick & mortar store left (in Brandon), I don't see them staying around for much longer. Out of the three to four customers I've met who are/were on Xplore, either they were very unhappy with the service or they didn't mind it at all. They could've been more aggressive to get customers but they barely even advertise and their social media presence is beyond minimal. It also doesn't help that "xplore" is basically a swear word to a lot of rural Manitobans who had to rely on satellite internet over the past 20 years.

Also, THIS plan is only available to people with specific postal codes, so mostly Brandon. For $5 more you can get same amount of data + throttling Canada wide on the big three, while the 2GB applies to even Manitoba where they don't have towers.. so if you do a weekend camping in say.. Riding Mountain and watch a lot of Netflix or use it as a hot spot, you'll be dinged for overages after the 2GB as it's considered "off network" technically.

Yep. I had one of their higher ups as a customer just a few days ago and I said they did a horrible job doing advertising ever since they started, they knew and hinted that the company's closing soon anyways, not stating it'd be as soon as it actually was. I wonder if things would've been better if Freedom won the spectrum from the MTS purchase rather than Xplore
