Unlocked a Moto G Stylus (2021) earlier this month. Got text message and followed instructions from that. Got email with unlock codes, which worked fine. Hard to look at the email and enter the codes on one device, so write it down first (or look at the email on another phone).
Now using the phone on Tello, so can confirm that the phone is actually unlocked.
I am starting to see people on reddit running info some CSR that still saying they have to wait 12 months with phones.
I am wondering if this is refurb or new phones because it would be really messed up if some CSR says 12 months and other CSR says 60 days.
I unlocked a refurbished Moto G Stylus 2021 one day after activation. Data points.
I unlocked 2. The first one worked so I tried a second one, which was just activated the day before.
Edit: I have setup the phone and successfully unlocked the phone with codes.
I think I too may need to call TF unlock department to unlock my refurbished Moto G Power 2020.
The phone was purchased in January 2023 and reactivated when I received it. At that time text UNLOCK to 611611 said the phone was eligible to be unlocked (text now says 'Sorry, this service is not responding at this time'.) The phone was originally activated in February 2021 and deactivated in March 2021. The TFW Unlock Portal says 'We apologize. Your device is not eligible for our Unlocking Program.'
Last fall I was trying to unlock a refurb A51. Website told me it wasn't eligible for unlock, it showed up as reactivated. I called the unlocking dept and explained that I bought it from TF website as a refurbished. I had the order number from when I ordered it. The agent then emailed me the unlock codes.
I mentioned earlier that I had a phone I couldnt unlock as service expired and I didnt know the phone number.
Powered on the phone and despite being expired the phone DID display the phone number it had on the now inactive SIM. So I used that number and got to the screen where it says it can unlock -- submit info -- and goes back to the entry screen. I had this bug before where I can't get the website to work. So I called and they confirm its eligible for unlock (never asked for phone number) and says they will send email in 24-48 hours. For me now these emails never work and I have to call back again saying the email doesn't work and read the code to me.
EDIT: Since the phone call the website now says 'unlocking already in process' and asks for the email again -- which never shows up.
Just painful because the codes are so long to read off and enter. But in the TracFone many levels of hell, this is just level one and doable. One interesting side effect is the phone still does get texts -- got customer service survey and texting BAL to 611611 reminds me the service must be reactivated.
For me typical experience, website won't let me submit the request at all. Phone call confirms and submits request, a few days later never receive the email and they just read me the codes over the phone. All's well that end's well, but not sure why my Gmail is somehow filtering their emails not just to spam, but just not received at all.
So for people buying the refurb iphones, we just have to pay for the first month(I got the $10 autopay unlimited talk/text no data plan), turn off autopay & just let the line die? After 60 days it should unlock with no more plan payments?
I have 11,000 points left, wondering if I should get the refurb xr or se2 when it comes back in stock. SE2 has a worse battery but better specs. Or maybe just get the refurb a32 5g
I activated 2 refurbished iphone 11 on 2/9/23 and both phones said "Great news!!! Your device is already unlocked". However, the carrier lock status still said "SIM LOCKED". I had to call the TF unlock dept at 1-888-442-5102 and was quoted upto 2 business days for someone to remove the carrier lock. After I hung up, both iphones' carrier lock status now said "No Sim restrictions".
