    Samsung Galaxy A53 5G - info / discussion thread

I got a Samsung Galaxy A53 5G from Tracfone today.
This seems like the best android phone currently sold by Tracfone if you don't mind the Samsung "One" UI.
Since the first of these phones should be reaching users soon I thought I would start a thread for it.

I just started charging mine so not much to report yet except it doesn't come with a charging block, it just comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable. Might come in handy to move apps to a new phone. Also, the plastic wrap along the edges is really hard to remove.

Anyway, I'm charging it with the charger that came with an A51

    It's available at Tracfone here:
    https://www.tracfone.com/phone/samsu...a53-5g-prepaid
$279.99 as of this post but was $229.99 for a short time

I verified that it has 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and NFC
    Fingerprint reader is in display
    It has no headphone jack
The microSD card slot is under the SIM card, flip the tray over
Both the SIM card and microSD card go in upside down with the contacts facing outward

Note: The info above refers to the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G from Tracfone, model SM-S536DL

How much RAM does it have?

Samsung (taking a cue from Apple) no longer includes a charging block. My S22 didn't come with one either.

According to reports the A53 5G also doesn't have a headphone jack.

    (unlike the A51 or A32 5G)

It has 6GB RAM which is pretty sweet. I verified this under "battery and device care"

Yep no headphone jack. Luckily I have some USB-C headphones.
Also, I don't see a fingerprint reader on the back or the power button.

edit: fingerprint reader is in display

The A51 has it in screen so probably the same.

I got it for $230 last week, not sure it went down to $220. My phone says shipped but the label shows no progress on UPS so we shall see if it actually left their warehouse.

My bad, it was $229.99 at it's lowest I believe. I corrected the post.
I ordered mine on 7/9 and just received it today! I didn't get a shipping notice until 7/18 so there is hope

    Fingerprint reader is in screen.
I was expecting it to be on the power button like the A32 5G, the side power button reader seemed to function well for the short time I had the phone but the phone itself was just too sluggish for me.
I'm not a huge fan of in screen readers...

I have been thinking of ordering an A53 5G, but I am having second thoughts since I have a S20 FE 5G.

After playing around with a S20 FE 5G and A51, I do not see the need for a higher end phone for myself.

Luckily, I got my S20 FE 5G cheap during Black Friday.

On the side note, I do like Samsung's "Caller ID and spam protection" which was not on the A51.

Do you know if you have that on the A53 5G?

Funny because my wife has an s20 fe 5g and I asked her if she wants to upgrade to this phone and she said her current phone is fine so why.

Well I bought it anyway between the price discount and a glut of points that others have warned to not board... So basically gonna keep it and give to her later when the s20 finally kicks the bucket.

I wish I can get more reward points on my Straight Talk account, but I have not got enough points to use them yet.

I can't be sure because I rejected all of the Samsung stuff I could when I set it up except for what was mandatory.
It's just a backup phone for now while I play around with it.

Mine arrived today. This is my first Samsung phone, so excited about seeing what makes it different. The screen looks nice, apps seemed to open pretty quickly. What is really bugging me right now though is there is jitter when I scroll. I noticed it in Google discover, scrolling through youtube, scrolling through the Google Play store, etc.

Sent from my Pixel 4a using HoFo mobile app

I think you can usually find it in the call settings which is accessed from the phone app/press three dots on right, press Settings, and it should there.

This phone is also missing Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax).

List of Samsung phones that support it.
