Has a lot to do with the decline of forum based websites over the years. I'd imagine most of the people that still post here are older, and have been around here, or followed the website here, for a while. Reddit became a hit with x'ers, millennials and z'ers and pretty much killed the forum based website business. Same thing happened to macrumors forums, android central forums, xda, the list goes on. All have seen massive declines in users and interactions with the rise of Reddit.

It's not. I use Reddit because there is a lot of information there. However, it's not easy to find or participate in like an indexed forum such as this one is.

I call Reddit scatterbrained. Maybe one has to be unstructured to thrive there.

I typically use Reddit via Apollo (iOS/Mac app) and have everything set to be in reverse-chronological order, so that helps a lot for consistency and feeling more like traditional forums. I also use the Save/Bookmark function for things I want to check back in on.

I do find a different tone over here vs. Reddit, however. This tends to be a bit nerdier in the various carrier subforums, while Reddit has a lot of folks posting general questions because they want to lower their bill, complain about a store experience, or have lousy service at their house. The amount of "5G UC lol" speedtest posts showing <5Mbps probably because of backhaul constraints tend to be more over on Reddit than here, too. Still, there are certainly some valuable topics and subreddits, and you can get quite granular (every major MVNO has its own subreddit, for example).

Nonetheless, there's definitely some valuable posts here that don't end up on Reddit and vice-versa, so I tend to check out both. In some cases, the back catalog of old information here is also a great resource (many of the carrier subreddits are from 2010/2011).

Gen Xers were born between 1965-1980. So they are between 42-57 years old. I myself just turned 54. Basically half of Gen X is 50 and older. I doubt this site mostly 58 year olds and up. And a lot of Gen Xers wouldn't know or have anything to do with Reddit

This is incorrect, Reddit was founded 17 years ago and saw massive growth between 10 and 12 years ago. All because it became the it place for 20-35 year olds to hang out, chat and find information. It having a ton of porn on it didn’t hurt itself either. X’ers were the growth behind it. Those 20-35 year olds are now 40-55. I would say the average age of the user here is between 55 and 65. You probably represent the average age of people still using forum based websites. Some are younger, myself included, but the younger ones generally don’t view these types of sites as their top source of information and entertainment, and post and use reddit much more, again myself included.

You could probably make the argument that today there are more millennial users on Reddit than x’ers, though I’m not positive that would be true, it’s probably still very close. There are a ton of sub reddits where older people can go to complain about everything, and say how bad the younger generations are. Again, having a ton of porn on there also doesn’t hurt. That’s reddits popularity in a nutshell though, whatever you are looking for, there is a subreddit and community there to find.

Since the spirited discussions about Sprint buying T-Mobile or T-Mobile buying Sprint there hasn't been much interesting here. HoFo has pretty much turned into a Tracfone forum for people scheming to get something for free. No real criticism about that. I have done some myself, but I don't go OCD about it.

I have interests other than cell tech. Reddit has 2.8+ million subject forums. The other things that I am interested in are covered there. My guess is that a whole lot of the 2.8 million Reddit forums are barely active or about really weird $#!+. I know you don't have to look very hard to find really weird $#!+.

[Edit] I also like the Reddit upvote/downvote system. When trolls show up they usually get downvoted to oblivion quickly.

I use the mobile browser on my phone (Samsung browser) and have the Cellmapper/AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile threads all bookmarked which is much easier to navigate than the Reddit app.

I also find it annoying on Reddit when someone posts a good thread, or a first sighting of something, and only get 30 upvotes. While another user posts something simple minded like...'a loose cable hanging from a T-Mobile panel' and they get 100 upvotes and 100+ comments.

This has been a good forum, and it's a shame so many users no longer post on here.

Yeah, I mean I use to be on hofo growing up as I did not really know about reddit but once I found out about it, that was the end of hofo for me. One nice part of Reddit is that I could post 1 meme per day for a year and not hit any attachment limits like the hofo site still has.

Reddit does has it's downsides like going down ever so often and some bad mods but otherwise I am more on there now then I am here.

I have found this forum quite valuable as a Canadian. Free freedompop and cheap tmobile legacy plans!!
But I have noticed a lot of TF chatter lately.

Yeah the mods are very inconsistent. I got permanently banned from a subreddit for suggesting that someone was acting like an "self entitled precious snowflake" when they were clearly acting like a "self entitled precious snowflake". Whatever.

Your math doesn't quite add up. Add 10 to 12 years onto an age range of 20-35 and you get 30-45 or 32-47...not 40-55. So those lower ranges seems to illustrate Jack Hagar's point.
