LG Classic Flip L125DL won't work on Tmobile - HELP

The L125DL is supposed to work on all 3 networks. Many people on reddit have told me they have theirs working on AT&T and Tmobile as well as Verizon.

I bought the L125DL new about 20 months ago with tracfone service (verizon), worked fine. But I dropped the service soon after.

Then a couple months later I got signed up with Safelink/Tracfone Lifeline and decided to use it with that. They sent me a Tmobile SIM. Phone would not work. Rep said the phone will only work with Verizon. So I just replaced it with my old Tracfone/Verizon SIM and he did what he had to do to make it work on his end.

Stayed with Safelink for a year then I got the L125DL unlocked, then stopped using Safelink shortly after.

Decided to see if it would work with the Tello(Tmobile) SIM I use in my smartphone. It does not work. Same issue as with Safelink/Tmobile SIM - no calls can be made and it says "Emergency calls only" when I try to dial a #.

I'm at a loss here and I'm not sure what to do. I tried a factory reset but that did no good.

Anyone here knowledgeable enough to help me troubleshoot the issue so I can get it working on Tmobile service? Was hoping there may be some settings to change in *#546368#*125# but I don't know anything about that stuff.

Low volume users should try Tello. Get $10 account credit (aka Tello Dollars) when you sign-up with this link: https://tello.com/account/register?_referral=P3580CXQ I also get $10 for your sign-up. Win-win ~~ Check IMEI here. ~~ See coverage here.

What are you seeing on the signal indicator? (LTE or E)

Wi-Fi must be OFF to see signal status

If Tello uses MNC 240 the phone will only work on 2G (E). It should still make calls as long as you have a decent signal (Mine does)

With Tmobile SIM the signal bars are anywhere from 1 to 3 bars and there is no E but once in a while I see 4G and LTE but doesn't matter what it shows as when I try to call out I get "Emercengy calls only". Sometimes the signal bars have a small "x" in one corner and I'll see a turning "wheel" above the bars, I think that signifies it is looking for a signal. (With my verizon SIM I see "4G", never "LTE" or "E")

MNC in APN is 240 on tello SIM. But my smartphone access 4G/LTE nonetheless. There are 2 APNs I can use with Tello on my Smartphone and both are MNC 240. Tried both on L125DL and no change in behavior.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get that phone to work with a 240 MNC. I've tried numerous APNs and never was able to get LTE service, but the phone will still make calls over 2G. The LTE does flash on momentarily but it never does connect and defaults to "E".

I have two of the TracFone LG Classic flips and neither will work with 240.

It does work great on T-Mobile as long as the MNC is 260. I used it for 2 years on Liberty Wireless with no issues. (T-Mobile MVNO)

You may want to go into the menu and select 2G/3G only. If that doesn't work T-Mobile may have decommissioned 2G in your area or the signal is just too weak.

I'm a bit confused. Sounds like you are saying since Tello SIM is set to MNC240 instead of 260, that the phone will only work on 2G and 3G?

This is not the case. I have used this sim in 2 smartphones (Moto E6 and Moto G Play) and the Alcatel Go Flip 3 without any issues connecting to 4G/LTE. The L125DL lacks band 71 however 71 is not used in my area or at least not at my home where I am testing it. It has all the other bands that I normally use with Tello service - 2, 25, 41, 66.

MNC 240 should not be the issue here the issue here. And since the L125DL is a 4G phone with VoLTE, there's no reason I can see this phone should have a problem with the Tello sim, unless it's defective, unless some later manufacturing runs of this phone were designed for Verizon only or if there is some setting that needs to be changed (although no one has ever stated they had to make a setting change in order to use the L125DL on Tmobile).

Agree the sim does work fine in many phones such as the Moto E6, but no APN'S I have tried work on the LG Flip. Many members here on Hofo and Reddit have suggested various APN's but unfortunately still no LTE.

Very strange. So I decided to try to create the Tello wholesale APN again and if I set MNC to 260 it will not create the APN. If I create it by setting MNC to 240, the APN is created, however if I go back in to change MNC to 260, the APN disappears. How can I create an APN with MNC 260? Do you think maybe the MMC needs to also be changed to something other than 310?

Unfortunately you can't change the MNC. It is determined by the SIM card.

Not sure if you noticed but the box that the MNC goes in turns from green to yellow if you change it to a different number..

    No I didn't notice it.

So I'm guessing that some Tello sims are programmed for 260 because I know people have used Tello on this phone. My SIM is from about Aug 2021 so I know it's after the whole sprint merger tello fiasco.

Yep and for some reason some phones won't work with 240. I really like that LG phone. It has better battery life than the TCL Flip 2

I still wonder if there is an APN that may make it work??? I tried quite a few of them with no luck. I guess by now you found out how laborious it is to punch those numbers in on a flip phone.🥱

So I take it you have tried APNs that have MNC set at 260 with no luck?

Yeah, typing is brutal on a dumbphone. That's why I don't spend that much time trying to troubleshoot it with APNs.

Personally all I'm trying to do is get it to work on Tmobile just so that I can sell it (there is a market for this phone). But if I can't get it to work on anything but Tracfone/Verizon, it may prove to be a headache of a transaction after the customer gets it and finds it will not work on their TMO or even AT&T SIM.
