Yes, free texts are included with any plan, even data only. Yes, it's the build your own plan with the smallest amount of data and no minutes. There have been a few times when I have renewed her with a higher amount of data because she was home for a longer amount of time and was using more. I agree that you are probably better off with the $6 plan and not deal with combining the PayGo balance. When you manually renew, it carries over indefinitely. If you forget once, it will reset.

Thanks again. The indefinite carryover can build up pretty fast with little to no use as a backup and be in the bank if I need to start using it in case of an extended emergency if my main Verizon would be unusable for some reason.
