    Unlocked TracFone question

Is it ok to remove the active TracFone Verizon sim in my unlocked Tracfone Moto g Stylus and put an actived US Mobile SIM in it to use. Does removing the sim from my TracFone without transferring the account do anything to my phone that would make it unusable. Only have about a month left on the TracFone sim with lots of minutes.

    Hope this makes sense.

No. If the phone is unlocked, you can use it with any compatible carrier regardless of the SIM status. But do not put the Tracfone SIM in another phone if you want to keep that service/number, it could cause problems.

Woz2000 already answered your question. But here's a tip: If you're not going to renew the G Stylus's service with TF, remove it from your TF account before it expires. If you let it expire, it'll be in "limbo" status because it'll be inactive but TF keeps it in your account (at least for 60 days) hoping you'll reactivate it. If you want to sell it or use it with another account, you'll have to contact a TF rep to have it removed from your account. You can't removed it yourself using the web site or the app because it still has a phone number attached to it.

I have a similar situation. I have a TF sim in an unlocked Moto G Stylus. It's basically a backup device with a ton of minutes and service days.

Can I use that sim in an unlocked dual-sim phone? The resulting device would have T-Mobile as the primary service and TF as a backup. The main benefit would be that I wouldn't have to carry both devices in order to use both numbers.

You can, as long as that SIM is not originally from a TF-sold device and preferrably not a BYOP TF/Verizon SIM. Doesn't make any difference whether that SIM is used as the primary or secondary SIM of a dual-SIM phone.

Well, that's the problem. I'm pretty sure this SIM is from one of several devices I bought from TF using Rewards codes.

On a similar note, I have 2 iPhone 11's that have recently unlocked. I plan to upgrade a couple of T-Mobile lines with them by simply doing a SIM swap. The new phones will probably never see a TF SIM again. Is there any potential problem with this scenario?

I'm terribly confused with all the restrictions that TF puts on phones and SIMs.

I basically advise against SIM swapping a TF/Verizon SIM and SIMs that came from a TF-sold device. You can easily transfer service from a TF-sold phone to a BYOP TF/T-mobile SIM. Swapping T-mo and AT&T SIMs have fewer potential problems.

Pickup a .99 BYOP sim, activate it, keeping the number on the Moto G.

You can use your T-Mobile sims in your Unlocked 11’s.

So I should just activate a NEW BYOP SIM to use with my new phone, then I just transfer my minutes/days to that new SIM? At that point, I should be good to go? Could I freely stick that SIM in any unlocked phone in the future?

I think I have one of the older TF/TMO-ATT-VZ sims still laying around (never been activated). Should I use this instead of a newer VZ-only sim? Also, what happens when TF stops using the TMO network next year. Will I need to transfer to a new SIM again?

Finally, should I hold on to the Moto? Or am I safe in selling/discarding it?

Thanks. These phones are for my wife/daughter, so I don't want any grief about usability issues.

You activate the new BYOP SIM with A TRANSFER from the current SIM as one transaction. See steps 1 through 5 in THIS POST #6730 . As of now, TF doesn't cause problems when people swap BYOP TF/AT&T or TF/T-mo SIMs. Don't know what they will do in the future.

I think I have one of the older TF/TMO-ATT-VZ sims still laying around (never been activated). Should I use this instead of a newer VZ-only sim? Also, what happens when TF stops using the TMO network next year. Will I need to transfer to a new SIM again?
Of course you CANNOT use the newer VZ-only SIM kit for TF/T-mo because there are no TF/AT&T nor TF/T-SIM in it. When TF no longer provides service with AT&T nor T-mo, then you'll have to transfer back to TF/Verizon or leave TF.

Finally, should I hold on to the Moto? Or am I safe in selling/discarding it?
Once you've transferred service out of the Moto, you can sell it or give it away. Make sure to provide the original SIM to the new owner so they can use it for activation. Unless you stored your contacts to the SIM, there should not be any personal stuff on the SIM. It might show your phone number before the new owner (re)activate it, but when the new owner gets a new phone number it will write over your old number.

BYOP SIMs cost around a dollar.

Move whatever number / line you like from the TF-bundled SIM to a virgin BYOP SIM

and then you can (test / try) inserting in whatever device you like.

Keep the old TF-bundled SIM notated with the phone it came from in case you need it FFR
