When (trying to) activate a new line or transfer an existing one to a TMO or AT&T SIM from the (soon to disappear) old triple SIM kits

you will likely get pushback from both the automated systems and human CSRs

    Not allowed

    Incompatible

TF is now part of VZW.

Best is to use a device that simply has no VZW support

AND insist that you are not interested in VZW service - I already have lots of VZW lines thank you, or service gaps.

Using a zip code only serviced by ATT or TMO can help.

Or just hang up try again if they simply refuse.

Are Moto G Stylus from tracfone unlocked when shipped? I got one from reward points a couple of months ago. I've tried tfunlock but it said phone has not met criteria for unlocking. Would activating the phone with a transfer prevent unlocking?

No NEW phones from TF come unlocked. For a refurb phone, if you're lucky (like I was) you might get one that is already eligible for unlocking.

    No.

So as long as you remove the device from your account, there's no liability with leaving the SIM in the device for someone else to use?

I'm not sure what "liability" you're concerned about. When a phone is not in any account, the person who posseses it is the "owner" in TF's view. If you sell it with service left and don't want to the new owner to have your old phone number, text MINC to 611611 and it will be assigned a new phone number.
